Requirements for Enrollment: You must live in the Sweet Home Central School District in order for your child to attend our schools. We have provided a district boundaries map and street listing on this page to verify that you live in the district. We do not accept tuition for out of district students.
District Description: We have one high school, one middle school and four elementary schools. There is no open enrollment for elementary schools. Students are assigned to elementary schools based on the street they live on or if there is a need for ENL services. There are no exceptions.
Please note that Elementary ENL services are offered at Willow Ridge, Maplemere and Heritage Heights Elementary. Students who live in the Glendale area that require ENL services attend Heritage Heights.

Common Questions
-
Can my child live with a family member or friend in Sweet Home in order to attend schools in the district?
NO. A student needs to reside with a custodial parent and/or legal guardian who resides in the district in order to attend a school in the district. Transfer of custody or guardianship is a legal matter that occurs in family or surrogate court. Legal documents need to be provided to the school district in order for enrollment to occur or continue. The transfer of custody or guardianship for the sole purpose of taking advantage of a public school's education is prohibited by NYS Education Law.
-
If I moved out of the district, can my child still attend Sweet Home?
NO.* New York State Education Regulations and Sweet Home School Board Policy state that students must attend the school district in which his/her custodial parent or legal guardian resides. The school district does not have an open enrollment policy. We strongly advise parents to check the district boundaries before making a decision to move to avoid an unexpected interruption in schooling.
* Special permission can be granted for students who move in the summer before or during Grade 12. This is called Senior Status. Students in good academic standing with no discipline issues, can submit a request in writing to the High School Principal. Students who move after May 1 can also request for special permission to finish the school year. Any students granted permission to finish the school year must provide their own transportation.
-
Can I use a post office box as my mailing address?
YES. However, if you choose to change your mailing address to P.O. Box, the school district will not honor this request unless you recertify your continued residency in the school district by providing a current rental agreement, mortgage statement or tax bill AND a current utility bill. You must complete this change at Central Registration.
-
What is a landlord statement?
If you are on month to month or have no current lease then you must provide a statement from the landlord that the parent/guardian and the children are residing at the property including landlord’s phone number AND proof of ownership from the landlord. If you are not the primary owner or renter of the property, you may request from the landlord that your name be added to the lease or obtain a statement from the landlord or homeowner that you are living at the property and proof of ownership from the landlord/homeowner
Download the Landlord Form here. The form must be signed by the landlord and notarized and proof of landlord ownership must also be given at the time of registration.
-
What do we need for our child who is transferring from outside the United States?
It is important for us to have copies of a student’s school records including last report card and grade completed, translated into English at the time of registration. In addition, we will also need a copy of the student’s immunization record translated into English. We cannot accept a physical examination from outside New York State so a student will need to have a physical exam completed as soon as possible by a New York physician. Immunization and physical requirements are available in our registration packet. If a student requires additional immunizations or a physical for school entry, a list of medical clinics in the area is available through our office.
-
What if my child moves within the District?
You will need to fill out a change of address form and provide Central Registration with a copy of your new lease or mortgage and a current utility bill. Transportation cannot be accessed from the new residence until this process is completed.* Submission of Change of address form and documents can be in person, by fax or email.
Download the Sweet Home Central School District Change of Address Form here.
*According to school district policy, students in Grades PreK-5 who move within the school district but outside of their current elementary school attendance zone, are entitled to finish the school year IF parent provides transportation to and from school daily. If parent is unable to provide transportation, the student must transfer to the school designated for the new address.
