Capital Project 2025
We are excited to share a detailed timeline of projected work for the Capital Improvement Project. This work will take place over the course of several school years. Click through the presentation to view a summary as well as a detailed breakdown by school year. Keep in mind, a project such as this includes many projected time frames, all dependent on things like approval from the New York State Education Department. Dates are subject to change, but we will update our community continuously.
Update 12/16/25:
Thank you Sweet Home! On December 16, you voted to approve both propositions of our 90.5 Capital Improvement Project. The results were as follows:
As we move into the next steps of our project, we will keep our community informed. For now, we thank you for your support and excitement around this project!
On December 16, 2025, we are asking our community to vote on a proposed $90.5 million capital project that will add much-needed classrooms to our elementary buildings, renovate learning spaces at the elementary level, improve security, make major enhancements to our athletic facilities, and provide much-needed maintenance items to each one of our buildings. This tremendous opportunity for Sweet Home addresses the increase in our enrollment and our community’s wishes to enhance learning environments for all students.
Community Input
The planning phase of this capital improvement project began by soliciting input from the Sweet Home community. In October 2023, we utilized the survey platform ThoughtExchange to gather hundreds of unique pieces of input from our school community regarding our school buildings. We also held several in-person focus groups on the matter. The results have shaped and will continue to shape the scope of this project. Overall, 756 members of our school community participated in a ThoughtExchange, sharing 635 unique ideas and providing more than 20,000 ratings on those ideas.
Our community has made it clear that they want additional classrooms at the elementary level to address the increase in enrollment; they want our buildings well-maintained and safe; and they want enhancements to athletic spaces across the District. Based directly on this community feedback, and taking into consideration the financial aspect of the project, we are presenting two propositions for the vote. Proposition 1, totaling $55.2 million, will be TAX NEUTRAL. This proposition focuses mostly on critical additions of six classrooms at Maplemere Elementary, two classrooms at Heritage Heights Elementary, and two classrooms at Glendale Elementary. The need for additional learning space was the most common suggestion from our community, and reflects the consistent trend of increasing enrollment numbers in our district. Proposition 2, totaling $35.3 million, focuses on renovations to all of our existing elementary classrooms, hallways, and gyms. It also includes a new electronic lock system on internal doors to increase safety. Our High School outdoor athletic complex will have the turf replaced, as well as adding a new turf baseball and softball field, both with lights. Additional improvements to our athletic facilities include fencing, a new ticket booth, and security enhancements. Proposition 2, if approved, would mean a modest, one-time increase of $64 for the average assessed home of $250,000.
