What is the Family Support Center?
-
Our Mission: To strengthen families so children can become independent, productive and contributing adults by supporting families' social, educational, mental and physical health needs and facilitating collaboration between community providers and the district.
Since 1993, the Sweet Home Family Support Center has been used as a model for the development of other centers throughout the state.
The Family Support Center is another level of intervention in the district's student support services. If students are struggling with issues such as anxiety, depression, low self-esteem/self-image, substance use, family conflicts, peer relationships or serious school academic or behavior concerns, we can help. Our program will assist parents with getting their children and families the most appropriate , affordable support in a timely manner. We can also assist parents/caregivers with their own counseling needs or parenting support.
For the convenience of our families and students, we currently offer on-site clinical mental health counseling from Gateway-Longview Behavioral Health Clinic, BestSelf Behavioral Health, Horizon Health Services, Mobile Counseling of NY and Williamsville Wellness Center. Families can also be linked to locations/offices in the community.
Additionally, we can assist families looking for health insurance, financial assistance, housing, recreation programs. We are a one-stop shop for Sweet Home families, linking residents with human service organizations and community resources that can help with specific needs.
We sponsor programs for staff/ parents and caregivers on a variety of topics, including parenting, mental health awareness, child safety, trauma, and drug/alcohol awareness/prevention.
Additional services offered at the Family Support Center's location include a resource library for parents and adolescents relating to parenting, adolescent and social issues.
The regular office hours are 7:45 am- 3:45pm Monday through Friday.
